I have quite a few still air hovabator 1602n's. I am confused as to where to place my thermometer. I am reading stories guide and David H says not to place the thermometer on top of the eggs because you are not getting temp of the incubator but the chicks throw off heat and your reading will be off. My incubator directions say to place the thermometer on top of the eggs. I have had good hatches placing it on top and then not so good hatches (my own eggs not shipped)

So after reading what the book said I put my thermometers on the bottom of the bator, the temp is reading a big difference, so now I'm confused.

Where do you all, who have good hatches consistently put your thermometer with a still air bator?

I think the embryo won't generate heat till toward the end.
Most people put it on top or you could put a couple fake or infertile eggs in there and read on top of them.
