LOL... I can't stay away from the bator now, constantly checking temps and humidity everytime I get up, and even just getting up for no other reason then to check it... I don't know *what* I am gonna do once there are eggs in there...

I am ok til around day 16/17 when they start rocking, then it gets even worse when they start cheeping at you. I would get locked up if anyone walked into my house to find me sat talking to a box of eggs. Now I have a pip there is no hope for me

still air bators can run at 102 and be fine. I`ve actually read that in several chicken books. a wet bulb thermometer is good to have in there, also I keep a water wiggler in there too to get a closed idea of what approx temp would be inside the egg. Forced draft bators are more critical bout temp. So far I`ve hatched out several batches of chicks runnin about 80% including culls, also 150 quail, 2 dozen ducks, and 9 turkeys. My bators are homemade and I`ve added fans. Using muffin fans out of computers work great and even better if you use a variable power supply that you can get at WM for bout 9 bucks. 12v is hi speed and run it down to 5 v for lo speed. Happy Hatchin to ya. Pete

Well, I have two thermometers in there right now... The digital one is bouncing between 100.8 and 102.4... But, the outside mercury thermometer has been holding steady at 100.6-100.8.. I put the ghetto egg turners in there and put the thermometers on top of them.. I also have a small pill bottle full of water in there and after leaving it in for a few hours I checked the temp with a fever thermometer (only thermometer I had left in the house) and it read 98.9... SO, being that would be the reading inside an egg, would it be sufficient for hatching?

Also, wanted to add that when i go to bed between 12:30am and 1am, all is fine and the temps on both thermometers is perfect (100.6) but when I get up around 7-7:30, the mercury thermometer is reading the same temp (100.6) and the digital dips down to 98.6.. And yes, the mercury thermometer does move.. It's an outside thermometer so we've been using it to test the outside temp, the temp of the pool water and anything else we need it for...

I switched the thermometers around when I got up this morning to see if maybe the temps were different on different sides of the bator.. Although, they are on the same side away from the light so it shouldn't make a difference.. but, who knows...
