On day 12 of incubation the power went out in my home. I had no other option for my eggs but to pray they restored it quickly. It didn't come on until 6 am this morning (29 hours later) The temp of the room they are in was down to 40 degrees..... I waited until just now (7:30pm) to check my eggs because I've been too heart broken to face it. Much to my shock many are still wiggling around inside and have clearly defined veins along the shell.
Am I getting my hopes up for nothing? Do you think they'll peter out before day 21?? Can the long cold spell cause possible deformities?
My sisters say I'm growing "walking dead" chickens:)

Tell your sister to zip it! Where there's life, there's hope. Egglets are amazingly resilient, and I'd continue incubating, and hoping for a good outcome. Some times Mama broody gets off the nest for an extended walk-a-bout, and while it's not desired, the eggs hatch a bit late in spite of an extended chill.

LMAO Don't give up till there's nothing to hope on. I would expect them a day or two late though.

One time my cat got into our "pet room" and knocked the incubator on the ground, when I got home since they were on day 18 they were cracked, shaking wrapped, and freezing yet most survived.

Wow! :) gives me hope. This will really be an exciting hatch for me if any of them make. I thought for sure I'd be tossing them tonight.

I had an egg get kicked out of the nest for at least 12 hours. It was totally cold when I found it. Still hatched just fine. My fingers are crossed for you. Please let us know in a couple of weeks what happens.

I'll definitely post my results. I have 18 orpington eggs in there but stopped candling and hurried to put the lid back on when 5 of 6 random eggs showed definite life.... I plan to leave them alone until I candle at lock down.
Dumb question....should I still lock down on day 18 or wait an extra day?
