I am still getting copious amounts of duck eggs with my Cayuga ducks laying too, found my first black eggs today🥚🪺. Is anyone 🥚🦆experiencing great egg laying in January with the temps at 11°. Also, any advice for stopping 1 hen from picking on another? Thank you all🥚🦆🪺

Hi,

Overcrowding is usually the first cause for picking. Chickens need about 4 square feet each in a coop. If you have a hen that's being a bully, we've separated a hen on occasion for a few days, put her back, and it stopped.

We're still getting chicken eggs, and it's been sub-zero here, just only about 1/4 of the eggs we'd usually get. That's amazing for you though!!

I only have 6 duck hens and 1 drake with a huge coop and 126 acres of land lol I hope that's not too small. 😅

It's not the cold temps that causes hens to stop laying in winter, it's the short daylight hours. But a pullet under a year may lay through the winter depending on the breed. Some pullets that have not started before the shortened days may wait until spring to start. Lucky you, getting eggs in January! I am too, but am giving supplemental light to simulate 12 hours of daylight.

Heavens no!

I just always mention that when someone asks about chickens picking on each other.

I'm giving laying feed, along with some mill worms 🪱 and I give corn 🌽 peas 🫛 for extras.. they have 3 pools and lots of area for foraging.. I am happy with my girls!😀 they're getting decent lighting during the day with the sun out just really cold 🥶 🥚🥚🥚😀💙
