I will never have ducks, I'm not set up for them nor sble to care for them. BUT! If I did, it would def be these!
:love:love:love
I had back surgery in Aug and my husband got me ducks to I guess give me a purpose of getting up in the morning and out if bed with a routine.. they're my babies now. I never had fowl ever. I've learned so much from this forum and trial and error lol thank you for so much for your kind words. I know zero about chickens. I never even knew ducks laud eggs before thus experience! Ha! They're so big in comparison to chickens and if you have allergies to chicken eggs 🥚, these are the absolute answer . The yolk is much larger with less whites and very rich and filling !

I had been a LPN nurse for 18yrs, and now disability 😪 but I'm finally getting sorta back to myself and these little guys definitely helped that happen 🥚🦆

We had a 10,000 dog pen I converted into a coop for the ducks, they're well set up 😆 lol it's huge with the entire thing enclosed with nothing being able to get in. I've lined the whole thing with hay and they seem to love it. They put themselves to bed at night! I just lock them up and open it in the morning.

It's not the cold temps that causes hens to stop laying in winter, it's the short daylight hours. But a pullet under a year may lay through the winter depending on the breed. Some pullets that have not started before the shortened days may wait until spring to start. Lucky you, getting eggs in January! I am too, but am giving supplemental light to simulate 12 hours of daylight.
Our Australorp and Orpington just started laying last week!! They are both 9 months old. And it's been chilly cold. Our first fresh eggs since April, 2024. The omlets tasted divine yesterday.
