im new to hatching and this ones early it still has a yolk what do I do it doing ok so far but I lost one that this happened to before we’re did I go wrong can post pic in incubator if needed
is there anything I can do to keep it from drying out??Welcome to BYC!
Can you post a clearer picture? I can't make out any details. From the way he's curled in a ball, it looks like someone may have "helped" him before he was ready.
If there's no blood, then gently smear the yolk with antibiotic ointment and keep him in a small space so he can't kick around and hurt himself. Or you can paint it with a gentle iodine solution. Just make sure that when he absorbs it, it doesn't bring bacteria in with it, and that it doesn't dry out in the meantime.
Good luck with him and the rest of your hatch.
Put the cup on incubator?? He seems moist still on own should I just leave it not sure how much yolk is there as the bottom of membrane still there as well as some shellThe triple antibiotic ointment will keep it moist. So will some thick, gentle hand lotion, if you don't have any of that. And I know a lot of people on this site swear by coconut oil.
It can be several hours before it's absorbed. Until then, you can keep him still by putting him in a coffee mug with a gentle (clean) fleece liner, or something similar.
Recent picWill it be ok or should I put petroleum jelly on thats all I have right now
if it is yolk will taking him out hurt him??is there anything I can do to keep it from drying out??
