Still no ducklings!

Yes with both of them. They were in the pool and he was holding them under.
They definitely mated in that case. I would try candling them. It sounds like these eggs are not fertile however, your male duck did mate with them. Maybe the male duck did not properly mate with them? It may take the male several times to properly male with the females. I could understand if one or two of the eggs are duds however, it is highly unlikely that they are all duds. At this point, the eggs are probably not fertile since it has been 40 days. How many eggs are there?

It is possible that the male did not successfully mate with the females. At this point, the eggs are most likely not fertile and and probably unusable. Sorry about that.

Yes that’s what I’m thinking, I’ll candle them as soon as they move this afternoon.
If they come back to no eggs they’ll just stop sitting I suppose?
Yep. Hopefully! If you want to discourage your ducks from brooding in the future, taking the eggs away every day is a good idea. Even if eggs are fertile, you can still eat them! :)

Well I have a very strange situation! One duck appeared to be sitting on chicken eggs and I have no rooster, did the candle test and obviously no ducklings there.
The other duck is definitely sitting on duck eggs and the candling showed definite air sac in 8 out of 12 eggs.
I didn’t see any movement but a definite air sac with a dark area above it.
Maybe Australian ducks take longer to hatch
I’ll let you all know if it happens!

I don't see a Drake in the picture you provided. Hens breed other hens too so that means nothing..
Rotten eggs turn black too. Remove all eggs and destroy the nest. Even block them from returning to the nest for about 4 days and they will break from being Broody. Collect your eggs daily to prevent broodiness.

Do hens really do this? I have one duck that I am sure is a girl but mates my other hens even though I have 3 drakes. She has a flat tail like her sister, no curl. She also is not raspy. But she doesn't really quack at all, she's quiet.

These all appear to be KC females. Drakes have different plumage unless they are in eclipse (I believe KCs go through eclipse plumage). Also, drakes have an obvious penis, if you watch them mating you will actually see it more often than not. Otherwise you might just have females playing in the pool, they certainly do climb on each other and grab each other and exhibit mating type behavior even if all females.
