This one came running up to see what my iPad was when I set it in there to take the picks. This one seems to be the most aggressive one.

Yes! Now for some reason I was right that some were further along than others it would explain lots; why I'm two days early and also why the chicks are pipping out of the middle of the shell nowhere near the air sac since i was turning them until yesterday. Agree or disagree? I set them at noon on the 22nd of August. And that first chick was dead by 7:00 am this morning, making it a pipper even a day sooner. The beak looks really well developed to me. If chicks hatch three days apart, then some won't be turned for six on one end of the spectrum and others will be turned the day before hatch! Btw, I picked these up from a local farmer, they were not shipped in any way.

According to what I have read they can be laid on different days and they only start forming after they have been in the bator.

Millie, what kind of chickies are they? And I'm also curious what kind of incubator you used as well. That pic of the chick scoping out your ipad...it reminds me of those adorably nosey ones I always think of as roosters...when they stand up like prairie dogs and give you 'the look' like "hey, who invited you to this chick party?"

no news is good news. No new pips thank goodness. And I always believed what you did...that growth really didnt begin until they were put in the bator. Though I swear somehow with mine this isn't the case. who knows? Warm counter in the summertime could get cozy in there! Or even stored on top of of fridge or something....

They are mixed backyard chickens. I will try to post a pick of the rooster. I have 4 RIR 2 Barred Rocks and a Game hen. My sister gave am some eggs but only one hatched. I tried to watch the chick after it hatched but 3 others hatched at the same time. Hers were mixed also and she has over 20 hens so who knows which one it was from.
