Hi everyone...
We have been trying to integrate 3 EE's that were born July 26th, with our first flock of 7 that was born June 1. At first we kept the EE's in the garage coop, and just let them outside during the day. But that was in the summer/fall when the weather was better, and my DH built a run within the run for them. Then they just got too big and it got too cold and we knew we had to move them to the coop somehow. So, DH built a coop within the coop for them, and if it gets warm enough outside, we just take them out ourselves. It's kind of a pain. They don't even really have real nestbox. I am using an old eggbox I found at a thriftstore turned on its side. That is fine, but we really want to get them integrated. These chickens have seen each other for 6 months, and you would think it wouldn't be that hard to integrate them, but it is, everytime one of the 7 can get near them, they peck and peck them. A couple of the EE's try to stand up to them, but eventually back down. Today, I opened the door between each coop and said to h*** with it, work it out ladies!!!! What do you think of this method. The EE's are scared and right now are staying on their roost poles, but hopefully they will come down and eat and lay their eggs and whatever???? Any advice??? Thank you in advance.

That's where "the pecking order" came from. Until they get that established, they will fuss with eachother. From what I've read, and done, leave them be and it will work itself out. before I built "real" nesting boxes, I used milk crates turned upside down and fill them with wood chips or straw, my hens used them. Good Luck, just be patient.
