Hello! I had a mixed group of eggs hatch about 10 weeks ago. I can't tell if this one is a cockerel or pullet. We've been calling it a he since it hatched, but I have doubts. It is very sweet and friendly, and will come up to us and let us hold it. But a week or so ago it started making a horrible sounding sick goose honk early in the morning. I assumed it was its attempt to crow, but I am holding out hope it's a female anyway. The other male of the same breed was so clearly easy to tell and started crowing over two weeks ago, so I don't know if this is just a late developer, or a noisy but sweet female. Any thoughts? I think it's a Black Australorp. I don't want to have to send it to the farm if I don't have to (I can't keep roos in town), but I think I might have to.
