Still waiting for that last chicken...

But will it still take a certain amount of light for the system to produce an egg?
No. It isn't about the length of the day, it is about whether daily light period is increasing or decreasing in relation to daily dark period.
ETA
We have about 9 1/2 hours of daylight now. I expect an impact in the next two or three weeks and it will still be under 10 hours of daily light.
And it will still be cold.
At the equator, they never get much over 12 hours of light. 12:09 is about the longest day. At no time do they ever get to 14 hours of light but their chickens still lay eggs. They don't need that much.

My EEs (2), began to lay around 19-20 weeks. They hatched late Feb, laying in mid to late July.

We have 3 Dark brown Leghorns that are same age/hatch date, and are now 42 weeks. Two of them have never laid a single egg....and we have supplemental light in coop for 15 hours light. Clearly an individual thing. Very curious if they will lay before 1 year old...

Good luck and hope your EEs lay some pretty eggs. Ours lay shades of green.

Mine started at 26 weeks and has been my top or 2nd highest producer as far as I can tell.

Yesterday I had 6 eggs from 6 pullets so we are officially 100% laying!

Good luck with your EE. Mine has become my favorite bird after my Barred Rock.
