Stingy with the roost

I have 5 hens a little over a year old and 21 that are from 4-5months old. My 5 hens won’t let the 21 youngsters on the roost at night. They all get on it during the day though. Will this behavior correct itself within the flock as the young ones get older or is there something I should do? Also here is a picture of the roost we built when we added to our flock.

It's probably just part of the pecking order development, but make sure your roost is big enough to compensate for the increase in chickens, perhaps consider getting a second roost so they all have room.

That’s a nice roost! Wish i had room for that in their pen! Anyways it’s most likely just temporary aggression. Hens are nasty and tend to pick on the smaller and more submissive members. As a group they will most likely get over it but some individuals may hold onto it. I still have a hen that refuses to let any of the other hens stay near her on a roosting bar at night.

I see more than 5 birds on that roost .
RoostTimeRumble is the most contentious part of the day and seniority usually rules.

Yes, it should improve once the youngsters get older..and especially after they start laying an work their way into the main pecking order.
Looks like there's plenty of space so I don't think you need to do anything.
How old are the youngsters and how long have you had them?
