Stinkin' Armadillo..

I'm in South Carolina.

They hadn't been until the past few years. They are common now in the lower part of the state, all along the GA border, Charleston and I've heard that they can now be found Columbia. The truth is if they are around Columbia, I"m sure they are here too, we just aren't seeing them yet.

we use dogs to terminate the critters

I see coyotes during day time all the time!

One evening at 5pm during one summer, the kids, wife and I are all sitting on the raised deck eating our meal. Our defender: a female doberman named Ellie was busy watching our every gesture and move...hoping a morsel might find its way accidentally/on purpose onto the deck. I was watching our 7 hens coming up toward the deck in the middle of our lawn below us. Just then, a coyote--with a plain view of all of us, including Ellie--came sauntering up toward the hens, in that low, sneaking ambulation they do. I turned toward our dobie and said "Ellie!" "Ellie???" "Ellie!!!!" Finally, she spotted the coyote which was then within around 8 feet the hens. Well, she tore of after the coyote and chased it to Timbuktu. Twenty minutes later she returned looking for dinner scraps.

We have them too. In fact we have one living near our chicken coop. He's huge! We live in West Georgia, about 45 minutes from the Alabama state line.

Not only are amadillos hard on your yard some not all carry leporocy (as mentioned above). They won't go after your chickens or goats, but something digging around your yard or coops can make it easier for other predators to dig. I wouldn't let my dogs go after them because of the chance of them getting sick. They have been moving further and further north. They are fun to scare becasue of their ability to jump, but they are not tollerated in our yard.

I remember an episode of Billy the exterminator where he trapped the dillo. I remember he said their eyesight sucked so he made this funnel fence that lead it into the humane trap. I don't know if he even used bait. He just found it's normal path and set up his fence.
