Stinking dogs are at it again

I will throw my 2cents in. Isolate Gertie and the Brahma inside the house, in a quiet corner where it is warm. That alone will help alot. Blue-cote or Wound Cote (for horses) works very well to help cauterize the wound and for healing. Vet Wrap is great for bandaging.
NEVER EVER trust your dogs, no matter what breed it is, with the chickens! I have a Fox Terrier and he is a holy terror with killing chickens. I have not lost one single chicken at my house to this dog, because I know he will kill- period. We have had many close calls and he has killed chickens at the horse stables.
My prayers are with you for your 2 babies recovery.

Thanks Terri O. I'll see if I can't find some of that. I'm still new to this chicken business and they just started laying like three weeks ago after a very looooooong wait (as I'm sure you know all too well). The thought of my girls not making it and havign to start over really sucks. It's been two days now and they're still with us so hopefully we are coming out of the woods a bit.

All three of my Aussies are adopted and I would never consider giving them up. The one that is my problem has been in 6 other homes primarily because she was placed in homes of people who have never owned an Aussie before. They aren't for everyone and they certainly aren't for chickens. We put an extra lock on the gate so hopefully this won't happen again.

Hi there,

I just wanted to pop in and thank all of you for the great advice and give you an update. It appears we are out of the woods. I glued my Cochin back together and once that was done she ran off like she was as good as new. It was a little weird. Maybe the open wound was irritating her.

As for Gertie, my Light Brahma, her degloved neck has begun to heal up. We are still treating her with a topical spray that has worked wonders for her. She is all back to normal with the exception of it appearing that her head is floating over top of her body because of the way the feathers were pulled out.

Anyways, I thought I would share a success story and again, thank you all for your sound advice.

Great to hear!!
