My hen went broody over the memorial day weekend.I have a friend that brings me eggs to hatch,as I have no rooster. They were out of town.my husband's nephew gave me three eggs from under his broody.he said she had just went to setting.than a week later my friend left a dozen eggs at the front door.I did not know what to do.i asked a well known chicken keeper.and was told to just put them under her if she was still setting.I had one of the eggs hatch out a few days ago that my DH nephew gave me.i had noticed the last couple of days a awful smell coming from the broody and her nest.this morning I pick up the lone chick and lifted my broody off the nest.one of eggs my DH nephew gave me had burst and a dead chick was under her.i removed the chick which was stuck on another egg.I tried to clean the rotten chick off the egg.Gag,gag!!.I ended up tossing the egg it was developing. So I have one chic hatched.and she is still sitting on 13 more eggs.I have a incubator that should be here tomorrow.I plan on taking the rest of the eggs out from under her and putting them in a incubator. The lone chic is chirping and I'm sure its hungry, but broody mom won't come off of her nest.
