We covered the run with a tarp. I sprinkled some garden grade lime, then sand, then some DE for good measure.
Within an hour the smell was better and by the end of the day the smell was much better.
This morning it was horrible. It smelled like very bad diarrhea!! It was a soupy mess and we really were feeling like "what have we gotten ourselves into?" But after just a few hours, things were MUCH better!
The chicks seem to like the sand. They scratch around, and mix it all up. I got play yard sand though, which is very fine. When we are ready to add sand to the permanent run I'll get more course sand.
I hope the rains stay away until we can get the coop and run finished.
