Stolen debit card UPDATE!!

Quote:
Me too!!! While I was at the bank, the manager told me "Hey withdraw some cash so you have it, we'll take of it for you". WOOT. At least I have some money in my wallet. I am and always have been a stickler for every penny being accounted for on a daily basis with my checking account and that may have saved me a lot of hassle with dispute forms and all.

You need to also go onto Equifax and the other two major credit reporting agencies and have a fraud alert put on your account. I had it done when someone stole information from a health insurance company Im with. It gets renewed every 90 days. I would also look into buying some identity theft protection just in case. The company who had the info stolen gave it too all affected customers for a year. I regularly check my credit and get a free report once a year. Its worth it.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry this happened to you.. xke4: I have a bank card that is a "debit card" but can be used just like a CC.. without a pin. It deducts directly from my bank account.. I had this happen one time..

Thankfully, I didn't have anyone waiting on a payment and it was caught in time..

They probably either have a PO box under fake name or are using a false address. The people that do this are usually pretty good.

A lot of places you can purchase things online or over the phone don't require a pin.
When I worked with the pizza place, I never needed a customers pin.. but the zip code, yes.
Since I got my replacement card I've been making purchases online (hehe!) and not one place has required a pin from me yet, or even the 3 digit code on the back.

They only need the number and expiration to steal from you.

When I was 19.. I had trouble getting a credit card (I wanted to build my zero credit).. after a ton of phone calls and headaches.. it turns out that when I was 8 (8!!) someone bought a house in my name

I don't understand how.. but they did and of course, they defaulted. The only thing I could manage to do about it over the phone was get a fraud alert put on my history. The wouldn't tell me what else to do.. and though I called them and went on the internet a few dozen times.. they kept insisting they had already sent me my free credit report for the year, or that it would arrive any day now, and it never did... I suppose I should look into that, huh? To top it off.. the other place I was calling to try and get it sorted out.. they wouldn't give me some sort of vital info I needed to get even more vital info.. because they asked me security questions such as where I lived when I was 5 years old (couldn't tell ya since we moved every year!) and my last 3 adresses (which I knew) and apparently all my answers were incorrect!
I gave up in defeat...
I think the whole credit system is a load of hoo-ie.. I always buy things with what I have and ignore what I don't.. only I suppose I'll have to get this sorted out at some point... but I don't like phone calls! Someone else make them for me, pleeease?

Thats just sad! and makes me mad all over again! My purse was stolen a couple of years ago....and because I had only just been to the social security office i had ...in my purse.. green card, debit cards, birth certificate, passport, SS card and drivers licence for both aus and USA....they sure got a bonaza on that one

hardest one to "fix" is the passport as I have to go in person to Atlanta office to replace.
Next hardest is the green card as I was in the middle of applying for citizenship and you have to turn in your greencard to get it. Arrrgh!
