Thank you all. As of now. We found a lovely place to keep him for a quarter of the price we were paying. He is an easy keeper so hay is all that is required in the winter and his hay costed about $75 for 30 bales of hay. I am now taking over his hooves as well so that's a little way to save. The thing that saved us was the sweet hospitality of the people that saw my ad on Craigslist crying for help!
