Hello,
I've had my 3 cochins for one month. They have been locked up in a brand new airy coop until I finally got a new fence put up. They are n ow out and about loving life. Problem is, they've all stopped laying eggs. I was getting an egg a day from them.
Will they start laying again? Should I keep them in the coop except for weekends when I'm home from work?
Help, need advice, neighbors want eggs!

They probably have not stopped laying. They are probably laying in some secret spot in your yard. You may want to try letting them out in the afternoons only, or after you collect the eggs.

By the way, I live near you.

Hi Sweet Violet and fancbrd4me02, I'm a new egg also! I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I now reside in Walland, TN, it's in the foothills of the Smoky Mtn's. I didn't know you could have chickens in San Diego? When I was a kid a long, long time ago...I brought a baby rooster home from my High School(Patrick Henry). I named him "Henry" ha ha;

only to find out we were not allowed to have "farm animals" where we lived. I had to give him to a friend of mine who lived in La Mesa. I get really homesick for San Diego every now and then. Many happy chicken days to both of you!

I've been letting my girls free range most of the day now that I am home all day. While some of them continued to lay in the coop I found a giant nest full of eggs yesterday. I will have to let them wait until the afternoon to go out now.

Hello! Yes, in some parts of San Diego you can have chickens. I happen to live in the unicorporated part of the city, in what is technically under county jurisdiction. In the county, you can pretty much have anything you want. Most of the cities in San Diego County vary in thier rules about chickens. Some let you have roosters, some don't. It just depends on the city. What I do know is that there are lots of chicken keepers in San Diego! TN is beautiful. I used to drive around Tn when I lived in Bowling Green, KY.
