Stop Rooster Crowing

I have 5 roosters and have very close neighbors. My hubby invented the "cock box" in which our roos spend the night. Roosters like to jump up high, extend their necks and shoot their beaks off at the sunlight... inhibit these things and you inhibit crowing

We made the boxes too short for them to stand up in, too dark for them to see the light and on the floor of the coop. We (and our neighbors) don't hear a peep til I open them up.

we have one rooster and he is a year old, we had one hen and she died, we let him loose to be free to run around the yard and now he crows constantly, all day long. do they mourn for their hen? or is he just crowing to crow? i wouldnt mind it if it was for a few hours in the morning but he dont stop!!!!!!!...

Yes my "main" roo crows constantly if his fovorite "wife" is broody and outof sight all day.

Back to the main topic, I put my roos in a dog crate covered with a moving blanket in the garage at night. It is bedded with soft hay and has food and water so they are fine untill 9 or 10 am (10 am on Sundays). Its the only way I can keep the peace in my neighborhood and the system works great even here where houses are close together.
