Stop Smoking Thread.......

DH finally quit for good some years ago. he could tell you the exact date. My asthma has gotten pretty bad, so the house rule of smoking is "all you have to do to ask for a divorce is to light up, I'll be packed and gone within 24 hours." But that was after he quit; even before he quit he'd smoke outside always.
THE BIG motivator for the final quit was the dear dentist finding pre-cancerous lesions on his gums and sending him to an oral surgeon. "No surgery if you quit immediately" and it all healed up. Boy, if I'd know that's all it took, I would've paid the dentist years ago to say that...

If quitting smoking is anything like quitting chocolate, ya'll have my deepest sympathies

I work at Walgreens and their insurance plan is set up so that smokers pay $20 extra per month for healthcare. That right there got quite a few employees to quit. I wish I could get my Dad to quit, he's in his early 50's and he has all the warning signs (high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) of a heart attack I hate to think of it. He doesn't do anything about it either.

DH ignored all the signs too, and my "nagging". So I just prepared for the inevitable by brushing up on CPR and the early signs of heart attacks, etc., and planned my various actions in advance. 911 or if he insisted on driving somewhere, I'd take him around the corner to the fire station. Used the plan last february. Refused help, finally let me get him in the car - and since I heard no sirens from the fire station around the corner, took him there. Yes, dear, it was a heart attack and you stayed in the hospital a week for two surgeries. He is in denial again and ignoring everything and its driving me crazy from fear. At least he is not smoking.
