Stress, injury, less than 12 hours of daylight, molting, and exposure to infectious bronchitis virus can all cause laying to stop. My hen was roughed up by a dog and she stopped laying for several months. When she began laying again, her eggs were soft or shell-less for the rest of her life. She was a young hen and had laid big eggs almost each day.
