This has been a issue with for some time and can be solved by many ways. I Use feeding stations placed at least 50 feet from water yet close to cover. The feeding stations are also moved and birds can usually find new locations within a few minutes. To have a little fun keeping dogs out of feeders, I placed one feeding station up on a feeding station that is about 42" above the ground. Dogs can get to that if motivated but what I have for now.

This is the starting point as next to water supply and a place they go to a lot when eating feed.

Where they are supposed to go. Feeding station is loaded with more corn that usual as has more visual appeal.

Walkway baited with shell-corn. Will be removed later.

My dog gets hots spots from most grains.
I mix red cayenne pepper in with the feed to keep the mammals away from it.
1/4 tsp per chicken is 'supposed' to have therapeutic value for chickens.
I feed a wet mash so it sticks.

I am not sure the spice trick works consistently. My first German Pointer had troubles at first but seemed to develop a taste for it.
