Store bought eggs hatch along anyone? I'm buying regular organic.

Ok I am setting my fertile store eggs today! The exp. date says july 4th.

Winklerfarms- I would live to see some pics of those chicks!
Shardean- I will take you off the list. Thanks for the update!
Bethann- I haven't directly heard of success BUT I have read of other peoples success with cage free eggs on other threads.

I'm back from vacation with my Trader Joe's eggs :celebrate I was going to leave my mother's without telling her what I was doing but on the last day of our stay I called the store to see if they had any fertile eggs. My mother over heard me and got a little excited for me. She had to go with me to get them. It was just too funny. She asked the normal questions about store eggs being fertile.I just told her I was going to hatch them because you can - what an excuse. The store had just gotten a new shipment in that day. They said they were good until the June 30 - what happens if they don't hatch by the 30th? Ok, today is the 10th maybe they will hatch by the 30th.

Those eggs have traveled 1500 miles by car in an ice chest with icepacks but no water. They sat on top of juice pouches at a temp of about 45 to 50 degrees. I did not trun the eggs while we were driving but we did dig into the cooler everyday. On the day they sat I turned them twice. When I went to drive again I set them flat. At one point I came close to loosing the eggs and everything when a truck blew a tire right next to me. The tire left skid marks on my hood and grease on the side of my car but all ended well for me. I don't know how the cars behind me faired.

I got the eggs on Tuesday and got home today and set them in the incubator. I didn't heat up the incubator but just set them in and turned it on. I turned on the Turner too. They will just have to fair for themselves if I'm doing anything wrong. I got 4 dz so I can stand to loose a few. LOL things we do.

:caf it is time to sit and wait with you all.

Who is doing what?

Good luck. Please post the outcome.

The only thing I have to say about a grocery store fertile egg "expiration date" is that it has nothing to do with the company informing its customers how long the eggs will be fertile...... That's the last day the store would possibly keep the eggs for sale for human consumption. But the freshest eggs WILL be the best shot for fertility.

I candled all of mine and had nothing. All clear eggs. Gah.

My 'bator will be occupied by Seramas this coming week, so my store bought experiment has been short-lived :<

(BUT I am excited about getting my Serama eggs!)

Yep, it's a gamble, that is why I'm doing it. A shot in the dark, for the fun of it  :lau

Totally understood - that's exactly why I incubated Trader Joe's fertile eggs about 18 months ago. LOVE the White Leghorns which hatched! The rooster was gorgeous and the hens are laying machines. They're also friendlier than I expected them to be, but that may be due to the way I raise chicks. Environment over genetics.

which eggs did you get from TJ's? Their organic brand? When I was there they had 5 or 6 different ones.
