Stories like this tear me up inside

That's so sad.

I'm glad she did the right thing though, so many people get so freaked out they don't do much...

I read about it.So glad she was able to stop those men. Those men had some horrible intentions. I would be interested to hear the 911 call of the man who escaped.I listed to the woman.Hope she will stay with family instead of alone.

You know what those dirtbags were thinking? "Single mom, has one kid, lives alone. Easy target."

Who knows what their intentions were? Filth like that deserve that kind of fate.

20 minutes for police response is normal in the town where I'm an EMT, and that's if they are even on duty. Most of the time, if it's a weekend or after hours, no one shows up.

In the gun world, there's a saying. "When seconds count, the police are just minutes away."

My state is a "Castle Doctrine" state and you can look up, on the NRA's website to see if yours is. To me, it's not really a question. You do not shoot unless you feel your life is in danger. Defending your life will never be questioned in court, successfully. Defending your possessions? Maybe.

I believe Texas *really* stretches their castle doctrine laws.

Messed with the wrong mother that time, didn't they? Good for her. I wonder where the dog was at the time?

Agree! They were also probably saying "That guy died of cancer and there are probably some pain meds left".

Is it wrong that the more I think about it, the more I regret that the other guy made it out without some lead in him? People who would take advantage of other people's suffering *really* tick me off.

When I grew up, Calvert County, Maryland had one police officer on duty, at night. You had to hope he/she was near you or it'd be forever before help arrived. On the other hand, if you wanted to make up time, on the highway, Calvert County was a good place to do it :p

I feel for her in so many ways, to be that young and to take a life, justified or not is a heavy burden. That poor child-mom. I am glad she was able to defend herself and that baby, I feel so sad that she had to.
