storing and feeding egg shells

my question is two fold - I've read that some people save, clean and crush their eggshells to refeed to their layers. Thoughts? Also, my chicks are shy of 4 weeks. If I were to want to feed eggshells to them when they start laying is it too soon to start cleaning and saving eggshells? I'm not sure how long they would keep before they would start breaking down. Thanks!

It's not too soon to clean and save them! I don't rely on eggshells 100%. I use both egg shells and oyster shells. I rinse them off under water, let them air dry on the counter, and put them in a gallon sized zipper bag. When the bag is full of shells I stomp on them to crumble them as small as I can. Then there's room to add more egg shells!

What we do is just normally save the egg shell, but keep it in a kroger/walmart bag with like bread crusts, strawberry tops, and things like that. Thats how we store it.
Just like humblehillsfarm said its not to soon to start saving and cleaning them!

My ladies are 8 weeks and I’ve stared saving mine. When my container is full I bake at 350 for 15 min and then crush
