We haven’t had much bad weather since the chicks have been in their coop, so I’m looking for some advice on how much to batton down the hatches.
I’m closing the 2 side windows on the coop for sure but am undecided on if I should leave the big window open since it’s under the covered run or close it up. I’m thinking they shouldn’t have too much wind blowing on them if they seek shelter in the coop today or when they roost tonight.
I’m trying to decide what to do now because we won’t be home for me to run out and lock it up incase that’s what’s needed and I leave it open - we will be home by about 9pm tonight so I can lock them in.
I’m thinking close it up just in case but maybe they can tolerate the wind that may blow in?
Temps are supposed to be around 18c by the time the storm reaches us and not supposed to be hurricane conditions.

That’s the big window in front of the coop, but the run is covered. Roost is pretty much at window level.

Don't shut them up too tightly. Hurricane air is HOT and HUMID -- they need their ventilation.

A tarp or piece of plywood on the windward side of the covered run might help, but the main thing would be to fasten down anything loose that could blow around. As long as a sheltered spot is available adult chickens will have enough sense to seek it out when the need it. :)

I think I’m going to gamble on leaving the window open and if I have to come home early to close it I will. I guess I will have to use this storm as a test run to assess how to proceed in the future.
Thanks for the reply @3KillerBs :thumbsup
