We had a bad thunderstorm last night.

I know it was bad because the yard is awash. I was at work and wasn't aware of it until I got home. There I found eight of my babies had perished!

They were about a month old.

The rest seem to be ok, though one of the mottled Houdans looks a bit chilled. I brought him (her?) inside to try and get it warm again. He's (she's?) looking better already. The ducks are loving our new flooded yard though!

Sorry for your loss, it happened to me too the first bad thunderstorm my babies experienced. They didn't drown or chill they got very scared and squashed a polish pullet. They were about 2 1/2 or 3 months old at the time and I had no idea they would freak out so badly. Hope you have better luck in the future. Best Wishes...

There was a coop, but apparantly, from what I could tell, they freaked out so badly that they squished one another in their panic.
"Ralphie" (so named cuz he looks like he's wearing glasses like that kid in a Christmas Story) is doing well. He has gotten over his fright/chill and is ready to join his co-horts.

It must had been scary for those little peeps. Glad Ralphie is doing well and only ducks would love that kind of weather! I know mine did....hens hiding in the coop and the ducks playing in the pool LOL
