thanks! i have been trying @bunsnpupsnchick 's ideas today, and they are working well for me!

Yay!!!!

There must be something in the air or we've chicks coming into their big boyness at the same time. Mr Lola, the poorly marked cochin I got back cause the guy who bought as a baby can't have boys, has started nipping me! I think it has a lot to do with he wants to be down & wandering the house. I don't want him wandering all the time due to the potty issue. So, I go to pick him up...he doesn't like so he nips. This morning I "tossed" him outside. Well, the other boys immediately started harassing him. So, out I go to save the day. Unfortunately, it didn't impact his little bird brain that I could not only put him outside, but bring him in. Which, is what I did as he's been company for Sherlock.

I need to get my male to female ratio back inline & build some breeding pens. Which means, deciding who's staying & who's going. I really think with training/handling Mr Lola & the oegb would all make good showmanship birds. I just don't know how to get in contact with anyone about that. Mr Lola wants to be someone's baby. He's small enough that with a diaper or potty training he wouldn't need much space inside....oh, a crow collar too!!!! He has HUGE lungs for his size.

I don't think I could part with 1 of my oegb. The 2 I mentioned, I think I could. I'd miss them, but not as much as the other one. Trying to do some seriously objective thinking here. Not easy.

well my baby boy is still a big baby!! he follows you EVERYWHERE! and you cant sit down! he will get right up in your lap and puts his head on your leg and falls right asleep and he LOVES cuddling! and being petted

awe. that's my freddie, the oegb I can't part with. He comes up to say hi & hang out. Of the other 2, silver has been landing on shoulder/head then hanging out etc. Copper has always been more standoffish...still coming around. My black cochin bantam, Penguin, has definitely found his independent streak...but I can still hold him. His 'brother' the white, Ducky, has tolerated being held from day 1, but not his thing....he's the yard sheriff breaking up squabbles between any boys. Sherlock, who I figured out is a white crested red (laced?) polish likes to be petted, etc just not held. As I've said about Mr Lola....he was carried all over prior to revealing that he was a boy. lol

The younger ones I didn't really handle as I thought I'd have them sold, like Mr Lola & the others were. I'm still considering selling some of them. Watching development right now & considering breeding/sop prospects. I've a birchen cockerel bantam cochin that's looking really nice....no girl though. My self-blues look too thinnish...but from what I can find they need work anyway so....if I can get a male, they seem to both be girls, I'd like work on them. Plus I've a crevecoeur pair. And a trio of buff brahma....need some work, but not bad to start with....not sure how well developed they are as of yet. I've a couple of silver penciled girls who their markings aren't crisp, but the body type & feathers are looking good too....again no male.

So, I'm not sure which way to go with some of the younger ones. The creves are staying. Some of the cochins are just cause of color, but I need to balance the ratio. So, I'm debating about another order in addition to thinning out what I have. Any thoughts? I can post pics if that'd help.

This morning I'm putting out feed & Fancy Pants, my oldest roo, freaking charged my arm/hand. At least that's the part he got as I was bent down putting the food out. Ugh. Time for him to get another lesson. Guess he's annoyed or forgetting I'm the one with the food & keeping the other boys away from him.

I moved Sherlock & Mr Lola outside in a closed off dog crate/x-pen set up. I did let them out lose, but the bratty boys did their thing. Lola seemed to recover a bit quicker than Sherlock. I'm going to have them in this set uo for a bit then open it up & see what happens. Hopefully, the side-by-side exposure will work as it has for introducing younger birds. I'm still thinking of who to sell from my yard too so I can start concentrating on any breeding I'd like to do.

I'm trying. My goal is to have my chickens be self-supporting thru egg & chick sales. I want to breed some too. The crevecoeur need help as they're really rare. Some of the Cochin colors aren't common too. Then there's the I like the polish thing too. So, that's what I'm trying to figure out. If I start with breeds of varities that need the help then using some hatchery birds comes in handy as there's so little people doing it it's hard to find them.
