I just hatched some silkies. One of them sits on her butt with her legs straight out in front of her. She is very alert. When she tries to stand she falls on her back. She kind of walks if you hold her butt up. it almost like she has a joint problem or top heavy and falls back. The other chick seem fine. If you lift her up her legs work and move. Should wait and see or should I be worried that something seriously wrong with her. she is only about 8 hours old. I have never seen this before

Could you post a picture. She may have splayed leg in which case you can make a tiny splint to help her build up some muscles to hold herself up.

Try making her a chick chair out of a paper or foam cup to get the chick upright. Just do a search at the top of the page for "chick chair." Also look up splay leg in case it is also a problem.

Thanks, she started to walk after a few days later. her feet seem fine. so I think she is fine now.
