Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your hen. Yes, it sounds like she could be egg bound. You might start with an internal exam. Easy to do. Put on a latex glove and apply some KY Jelly or vaseline to the index finger. Gently insert it into her vent straight forward. If there is a stuck egg, you will feel the hard egg there. If you go more than 2 inches into the vent and don't feel the egg or it is deep in, then she is not egg bound.

But if she is, yes, soak her lower half in warm water for about 10 to 15 mins. Break up 2 Tums tablets and feed them to her. This calcium will also help to move the egg out.

You might also post this in our emergency section for more help if she is not egg bound...

I hope you can get her back to good health soon.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your hen. X2 on post in the Emergencies forum about her if you can't find a stuck egg right away. You might want to clean her bottom up and take pictures to help figuring out what is going on. Especially if the other hens are vent picking or in case she has a prolapse.

Hi again all well she has laid an egg today but still she is still not right, very quiet , there was blood in the egg and she is still straining and still has a messy bottom, i have put her in the hen house, run on her own and she has taken herself off to bed.
If i leave her in the run tomorrow will the other chickens still lay even though they can get into the henhouse ?
Thabk you all for your help
