So last night I was quietly chatting with my family around the table and my dog was on her side snoring her brains out, (lol she always does that <3 ), anyway she gets up and stretches and walks over and out of nowhere she started to yelp in pain, I tried to figure out why she was yelping. I checked her paws to see if perhaps she stepped on a tack or something but nothing. She wasn't limping and today she seems just fine.

Anyway, can she be experiencing internal pain?

Huh, I never thought of that. Haha she has always been that little pup in my mind.

So if it is arthritis how can this be treated? Or at least managed?

If arthritis becomes chronic than you can put them on daily pain meds. Some of mine have needed them over the years due to having Lymes disease, and the chronic joint pain it causes.

My one currently takes Vetprofen, a generic version of Rymadl. You will need to see your vet. Plain aspirin can be used but usually it causes digestive upset. Check with your vet before giving any medicine.

Unless severe, no treatment is necessary. If it starts to impede her or cause chronic pain, Rimadyl is a great medication. It requires a veterinary prescription and at least initial liver monitoring, but works really well on the old timers.

Keep her weight down & not so much running around anymore. Cushy place to lay, cold days warmth and you could try those supplements they have for arthritis.

I was always dubious about these supplements, but recently cared for my daughter's pug who was having joint pain. Got something with cosequin and other herbal stuff, and there was a dramatic improvement. Cause and effect or coincidence ? :idunno Not sure, but I don't believe in coincidence.

could have just twisted/pinched/popped something, I know I get stiff after being seated for too long or occasionally something will get pinched weird or have pins and needles

for years my dogs take the following, per vet's recommendation, despite my golden being nearly 13 with spinal arthritis, she rarely actually takes her prescription meds

fish oil (good for joints, skin/coat, and many other things)
glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM (it has to have the MSM to be effectively metabolized)

I purchase the human supplements and just put them in their food dish and dose them the same as an adult human (my dog is 75lbs), the human form is cheaper than the dog form and human supplements have stricter quality control (I'm pretty sure), and often my grocery store runs sales

with arthritis there is a balance between taking it easy and staying active enough to stay strong and be in good health, you must find the happy middle ground where the dog is still active to maintain muscle mass, mobility, and health, but doesn't overdo it and spend the next 3 days sleeping and unable to walk

This advice works great on me too. :thumbsup
