Strange behavoir

Just got back from the vets. She has a compacted crop. we now have to squirt 5ml of vegetable oil down her throat 3 times a day. If it is no better by Monday she may need an operation but these are not very successful and she might have to be put down. At least this way she has a chance. Thanks for all your suggestions and I will update on monday.
Thanks for the video, very helpful.
The poor dear does look like she's got a full crop:(
I have dealt with an impacted crop before, but let's get the Crop Lady in here to give you some better tips on how to deal with that.
Hopefully you won't have to have the surgery. Several folks have even successfully performed surgery at home, but let's hope we can get you working on getting that cleared up over the weekend so she in better shape for her visit on Monday.

@azygous can you chime in please?

Yes, it appears she has an impacted crop, hard and very uncomfortable.

The worst case I ever treated was my four-year old Cream Legbar Snickers. It was a couple of years ago and she was so jammed up she appeared like she was wearing a back pack on her chest. It was hard, very lumpy, and if that weren't all, she was also in full sour crop mode. She smelled horrible. I could tell she felt horrible.

The treatment went on at a constant pace all day. I began with about two teaspoons of coconut oil. This is easier and safer to administer than liquid oil. It's a solid under 70F. You just break off a bit and slip it into the right side of the beak.

Right away, I massaged the oil into her massive crop, circular motions ending about halfway up the crop, but staying away from the upper one-third so she wouldn't aspirate the crop contents.

I let her rest for half an hour, and I repeated the two teaspoons of coconut oil with another massage with my finger tips, trying to break up the solid mass.

It was so stubborn, I repeated the oil a couple more times, but the mass just wasn't breaking up. That's when I gave her a stool softer capsule, generic Dulcolax, whole, right into her beak with another two teaspoons of the oil. This time I let her rest for half an hour and massaged her. This time I could feel the mass break up.

I continued the massage until the last of the mass broke up and went down and out of the crop. Then I began treatment for sour crop which took seven more days. She made a full recovery, and is the picture of health today. Here's my article on crop disorders. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

She has just had her second lot of oil followed by a gentle massage of the crop. I have to admit she does look a lot better. She come out of the coup like Hussain Bolt. Fingers crossed.
