Hi all,
i have to do an introduction.
Since i found the first lices on my chickens, about 4 years ago, i have always used Diatomaceus Earth to kill them. I know that the use of DE is discussed, but, in my specific situation I always found it resolved. Even with massive infestation! I always have this type of lices on my chickens, and when i see them i powder the birds with DE and then they disappear in a few days.
BUT!
Some days ago, during my weekly inspection on birds, i found on my silkie Batì 8-9 louses that are similar to the one in the picture above but longer (their lenght is double) and black. They are big and they seem louses, not the little little bugs that are very common in wood coops. They was pretty only on her head, i looked on all her body but i haven't seen others.
So, i putted DE on her, but i'm not seeing improvements. The number of bugs is slowly increasing.
Batì is molting now but she doesn't seem weak at all, she is happy as usual even if she is a bit bullied from the boss of the flock (but this is beacuse she was broody and i broke her, so she is reintegrating in the flock). For sure, today i fed her alone so i was sure she ate enough. Her comb is OK.
I gave her today 1/2 egg to boost a bit energy and iron, and yesterday i gave her some nettle.
Have you ever fighted this type of louse? How?
What could i do? thank you so much!!!
p.s i will try to do some pictures tomorrow
