I have a hen that is open mouth breathing and has been for about 2 months now I have taken her to 2 different vets both with the same response "she looks fine" ..

It's cold here where I live so she is not hot at all.

The first vet prescribed her a antibiotic she took it all she View attachment 3273948

I was still concerned about her so I took her to another vet and they told me to just put 10ml of apple cider vinegar in her water and she looks fine..

As a chicken mum I know something is not right.. she is about 3 years old she has 5 other hens with her outside that are all normal

She sleeps inside aswel so she is not even getting cold at all I can't think of what it might be 😔 I notice she is sneezing alot aswel I did mention that to both vets 😔

The vet who prescribed AVC for gasping is worthless. ACV won’t treat much of anything. Gasping can be a sign of something stuck in the throat, a respiratory disease, an overweight chicken, or illness. Many will open beak breathe when hot.

How old is she? Does she lay eggs? Cannyou check her crop early morning before she eats or drinks, and describe how it feels. If it is full in the am, she may have a crop disorder. Those may be from an impaction, or a reproductive disorder or ascites. Is she at all overweight? How is your coop ventilation? Is there any mold?

She is 3 years old
She doesn't leek in a coop she sleeps inside my house
I did tell the vet that her crop is never empty in the morning it still has a apple size amount left in it
She hasn't laid any eggs just yet they are only coming back into laying eggs this season but yes before she was laying eggs
I have been told she is not overweight and is a really healthy weight

Here is a small video of how she looks breathing but I didn't pick the noises up she is making

Feeling her crop thismorning it's only about the size of a golf ball

Also I love near a mountain so the weather never really gets above 15 degrees we just came out of winter and are in the middle of spring

I emailed her vet and they said that they can't get her in until the end of next week 🤦‍♀️
