Don't kill me for posting about ducks! I happen to raise a domesticated pair of mallards. I bought them as adults. Soon after introducing to my backyard, the hen started laying, brooding anf finally new batch of ducklings. Few weeks past now she's laying again. 9 eggs now. But while i thought she would brood it like before she just occasionally sit on it, like whenever she remembers and hardly for an hour. She would get up and join the male soon again. I also see them mating alot, more than ever before. If she just sits on eggs like this for barely an hour I'm afraid she would just activate the embryo formation without actually developing it, hence spoiling the eggs either for incubation or consumption.
I don't know if i should hide away the male for like a week (that'd be painful for them), or could it be the combination of different pellets (layers, broilers pellets) that i mixed up with rice grains for their feed adversely affecting their behaviour. I'm even suspicious now that maybe the pellets contain some hormones/steriods that accelerate sexual desires or egg laying capacity. Would love some ideas here
