In the Brooder
I have had a sick chicken (Rhode Island Red Hen - 3 years old) for about two months. I noticed that she had watery diarrhea and that she was extremely thin so I brought her inside right away. Besides this, she is still wanting to eat and wander around and talking up a storm. We are going on about two months of her living inside with either extremely watery white diarrhea or watery black diarrhea. I have treated her twice with safeguard and I also treated her twice with corridor. I have been giving her apple cider vinegar and probiotics. The diarrhea has not stopped at all, and today I found this strange thing in the cage where she is living. It doesn’t look like a soft shell or shell less egg. I picked it up (with gloves on!) and it was firm and it stunk. I took it outside and cut it open with a plastic knife and it was firm on the inside as well and OH SO SMELLY! I am guessing some kind of egg but in all my 8 years of raising chickens, I have never seen anything like this!
Also, I am leaning more towards an organ failure with her? She isn’t responding to any treatments, but she is sure hanging on! Kills me that I can’t figure her out.
