I have had a sick chicken (Rhode Island Red Hen - 3 years old) for about two months. I noticed that she had watery diarrhea and that she was extremely thin so I brought her inside right away. Besides this, she is still wanting to eat and wander around and talking up a storm. We are going on about two months of her living inside with either extremely watery white diarrhea or watery black diarrhea. I have treated her twice with safeguard and I also treated her twice with corridor. I have been giving her apple cider vinegar and probiotics. The diarrhea has not stopped at all, and today I found this strange thing in the cage where she is living. It doesn’t look like a soft shell or shell less egg. I picked it up (with gloves on!) and it was firm and it stunk. I took it outside and cut it open with a plastic knife and it was firm on the inside as well and OH SO SMELLY! I am guessing some kind of egg but in all my 8 years of raising chickens, I have never seen anything like this! 🥴

Also, I am leaning more towards an organ failure with her? She isn’t responding to any treatments, but she is sure hanging on! Kills me that I can’t figure her out. 🥺

It is totally lash egg…. And I am assuming she must have some kind of bacterial issue to have diarrhea for as long and as awful as she has had, and that’s why the lash egg formed. There is no vet in my area to get antibiotics either. I feel so bad for her that she’s been stuck inside, sick for so long. :(
