Hi,

When checking for eggs in my coop this afternoon I found the nesting box turned over and this strange "egg" on the floor next to it. Any ideas what this is about?

I cut it open with a shovel on the grass and liquid spurted out. It looks like it would've been painful to lay... but all my four girls are looking same as always, though no other eggs have been laid for a few days. This thing is about 2.5" long.

Any assistance would be great. I have one isa brown, one black leghorn and two australorp cross hens.

Did it smell like anything? TBH, it looks like a ham pizza pocket, to me. It can be very difficult to glean something from a photo. Hopefully, somebody else might have encountered the same and have an answer for you.
Thanks mate - I didn't get a whiff of it but it didn't smell too fiercely from what I recall. Very odd.

Looks like a 'lash egg'...sign of infection in reproductive tract.
Thanks heaps aart - I reckon that's exactly what this is. My flock got sick a few weeks ago with what I think was an e coli infection so this would fit perfectly with that. I had no idea about lash eggs. Hopefully whichever one laid it will pull through, they're all up and eating with fluffy bums now.

Thanks again!
