I had a perfect example of this on the human body, but can't find it.
One of my chick eggs looks normal in natural lighting. Speckled, but fine. When I candle it I can very clearly see what appear to be 'layers'. I remember reading that it's something to do with cell formation, I think? It kind of looks like when a blood ring starts to break down, but it's for sure the egg. It looks a lot like the colored sand pictures below. You can see one 'layer', then another, then a third. I think I counted about eight. It's fairly defined. Another two of my eggs have but it's very hard to see.
Any idea on causes? Or name for that matter? If it helps, the chick eggs are also very speckled when candling.
