Strange egg whites

I think it's perhaps more wrong that their favorite treat is picking chicken wings clean...

I've had only barred rocks to this point (this year's flock hasn't started laying yet) and their eggs have seemed fine. You can definitely feed it back to them if it bothers you - that way the egg won't be wasted.

Alternately, you could save her eggs and donate them by the dozen to the local soup kitchen or homeless shelter. I doubt you'll hear a word of complaint.

I don't think you guys are getting just how thick. Correct me if I'm wrong, and you said yours were clear, but I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. Ew.

That is Eww. How old is the chicken that laid this egg? If she is young, it could just be her body learning how to lay properly. I have heard of a lot of different weird looking eggs.

I'm not sure how old she is but the eggs weren't all like that.

I know exactly what you meant about the thick egg whites. An egg in our nest box was much smaller than normal and the egg white held its egg shape after the shell was broken away. It was so firm that I found I had to apply a LOT of pressure to push my finger into it. It was like that jelly they cut into cubes and sit in the dessert section of the self serve restaurants .... but even firmer. The yoke appeared to have some kind of small embryo within it ... it was was very weird .... I wasnt game to eat it. It hasnt happened since, though just yesterday there was a paper thin shell that was already broken apart in one of the nests. Im thinking this may be one of my younger birds beginning to lay.
