I went to check on my birds this morning and found a strange egg.. it's blue and half the size of the normal ones. Anyone have any idea why? is this normal?

Do you have any birds that lay blue eggs?

Sometimes they lay weird eggs if they are interrupted during the process. Unless you are getting blue eggs all the time (there's a specific strain that does this, called Celedon), then the bird probably laid the egg after the first layer of shell was applied but before the last layers were added. The inner layers are often blue. It should go back to laying normally within a day or two.

I have had an occasional blue egg from my jumbo browns....had a few that were half blue and half normal spotted. Not sure why....they were normal size though.

It being so small it might be a fairy or fart egg. Those are just fun terms for an egg that has no yolk. This is common in new layers but also happens every once in a while with older layers. Unless it happens very frequently it's not something to worry about.

The lack of spots means it was rushed through the hens system and didn't go through the last steps of being "painted." Also not something to worry about.
