It was the bit about hair loss that got me... seems when I take down my hair (after being pulled back all day) that there's always like 20 hairs in there... but, evidently 40-100 per day is normal... interesting about the nails though... I'd always heard the vitamins bit too...

Back in the dark ages (late '60s) I was a dietetic intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. There was an MD there who was doing research on zinc metabolism, and apparently one of the main symptoms of a zinc deficiency was what he called "pluckable" hair. He was always walking up to people, grabbing a pinch of hair and pulling to see if it came out easily. I was always surprised that no one slugged him; must have been the white lab coat!
