Strange looking egg shell

I just got this egg. It seems that there are traces of yolk on the shell. I checked the nest, and I didn't find any leftovers of any other egg. Any idea what happened here?

If it's yolk then you probably had an egg get broken, either on accident (thinner shell and got stepped on or jostled around) or you have an egg eater. If one breaks, they will often eat it all so that the only way you know is that you're short on the number of eggs you regularly get.

My guess is that one might have been broken on accident, though, because the yolk got on this one. If they were going to eat it on purpose, I doubt it would have gotten smeared on this one. If you start getting less and less eggs, then you'll need to do a beak inspection and see if you can tell who's eating them.
