At My Desk!
I'm assisting a silkied Ameraucana chick out of the egg (these particular eggs are problematic). As soon as I started peeling back the membrane, I hit this thick layer of pale yellow powder. Lots of it. The chick appears to be healthy from what I can see of it. The powder is on the inside of the membrane and is dry. I have never seen anything like it. There is no odor at all. Any idea of what it could be?

Just a guess could it have had two yolks and this one dried up? I am NOT and expert at all someone else could tell you more. I am just guessing.

The chick hatched overnight and is completely normal and healthy. I still have no idea what it was. Mold would have a slight musty odor I think. Whatever it was it was harmless I guess.
