For the past few days I have been noticing that my roo is acting strange. When I collect eggs he pokes his head in each of the nesting boxes and makes a strange sound. It sounds like a mother calling her chicks. Then he will sit on the bottom of the coop and make nesting motions...like a hen does when she is going to lay an egg. He'll then call a few more times and by then a few of my hens enter the coop wonder what the heck he's doing. I have 3 hens (hatched with him) that are almost to laying age (20 weeks this week)...is he showing them what to do???

he's being the perfect gentleman,,, ALOT of good roo's will make the nests for the girls,, he'll watch over them while having the egg,, and sometimes will even sit on an egg ( FREAKED ME OUT!!) and they get VERY vocal when doing all this.,, so he aint strange,, just a good roo.

My Hamburg roo does this on occasion. It's cute to see him rearranging the nesting material and making a nice bowl in the nest for the girls. What a good roo!
