Strange, shrunken eye! HELP PLEASE! Ocular Marek's? *Picture Added*

Thank you both! I really hope it's just an injury not Ocular Marek's

I'm keeping an eye on her and I don't see any puss or blood or infection.
Is there any way to, I don't know, tell if she has Ocular Marek or not?
You said it was nearly impossible to tell, ThreeHorses, but...
What, in your opinion, is the likeliness that she does have Ocular Marek's?

Thanks again!

I wish there was a way to really tell at home. The best way I can tell (still doesn't rule out injury) is to check the reaction of the eye. Shine a flashlight in the eye - the pupil should contract to hold out light. Remove the light, the pupil should dilate again.

Mareks pupil misshape won't react, I believe. But then again neither would an injury that cause neurological damage - even one from inside.

But if it does react, that's a better sign than if it doesn't.

Again, if it IS Marek's (and I couldn't say a percentage of likelihood as the diagnostic tool we'd need we don't want - a necropsy), they can live a long time and you can still protect your flock, unlike other illnesses. So keep a hold onto your faith and hope.

basically if it is mareks they generally will get it in both eyes
and it is all grey color even the ey
so I guess just hope she gets so she can see the feed and water
if it is mareks she will generally go ahead and become pure blind
and goes on the feel of the feeder and waterer
where she has to stand in a smaller cage to exist

she will be giving off dander that has mareks in it and giving it to the other chickens

if it is a poked eye generally it will not grey the eye color as she has

any questions email me

Thanks everyone!
I don't see any discharge so hopefully that's a good sign.
I tried to do the flashlight thing last night, but she refused to open her eye

I'll try again this evening, hopefully she'll open it then.
Thanks again!
