Yeah, I go out at night for night check and don't turn on the lights outside...do I really want to know what is lurking? My poor husband will be doing night check every night.....

I go out, or try to anyway, just before dark. My coop is about 150 ft from the house on the edge of our patch of woods.

It can be dark and scary in there....

I still agree with some of you that it's a snake...and if so, and there's the problem of heat sensors in the camera(s), could you mount the camera low to the ground near the holes that are dug out? Surely there'd be some residual heat in the snake left over from the daylight hours....?

Do you have a motion detector light directed to the area in question? Would perhaps that light going on create enough heat to make the camera shoot off a picture? Maybe just the light flicking on would wake you up? I am grasping at straws here trying to figure out the mystery!!

I'm just speculating here. I know snakes are cold blooded, but if they are so cold as to not register on a heat sensor would the snake be out and about? Usually, when they are cold they hardly move.

That's true, jimmre...hadn't taken the logic that far before...so don't mount cameras near that cold-blooded snake! : )

To kind of go with the above comments...... I know snakes show up on infrared cameras, so I dont know why they wouldn't be able to trigger your game camera sensor since they take on the heat of their environment. Unless it is freezing there in California. Then like they said, the snake wouldnt be out to trip the sensor anyways.

If snakes don't go out when it's cold, then i won't be seeing one until next Wednesday. We've been hit with back to back storms here - cold, rainy, super windy. Even Fluffy the Rat didn't come out last night. All we got was another cat. That pen is obviously Ye Old Curiosity Pen.

Yikes, maryellenks! i would be terrified to live in a place where one of those might show up. Rats and the elusive ghost snakes are about as much as i can handle.
