We got a couple weird eggs the other day from our Reds. Instead of being smooth, they had a very rough, uneven texture, like sandpaper. And light colored, not the normal deep brown. Not sure if you can tell from the pictures. Since then the eggs have been normal. ANyone have any explanation? Thanks!

Ditto on calcium. I had an EE lay a VERY chalky egg once. It had a hard shell which was then coated with a brittle/chalky layer of calcium. She had quit laying for several weeks, but I kept feeding layer feed for the other hens. This had been her first egg to lay since quitting, so I guess the calcium just built up in her system and all the excess came out at once.
