I've had chickens for 2 1/2 years, and my first case of an egg bound hen came just last week. I've been soaking her in epsom salt 1-2 times a day as well as squirting an olive oil/salene water mixture into her vent with a syringe. This morning I found an odd mass under where they roost, and I'm assuming this is what's been blocking her reproductive tract? It's a rubbery solid I'm assuming is condensed egg material, shaped exactly like her organs.... :O

Would an incident like this be a symptom of calcium deficiency? ^^ The girls have oyster shells aways available to them and I recycle crushed egg shells into their feed. Would it be wise to add a calcium supplemental powder to their water or feed, even though the other hens have no issues? Is there another reason why this would have happened?

She's a fairly young hen so I'm also looking for any other preventative measures I can take so this doesn't happen again...

Thanks for your help!
