A few years back I had an Lady Amherst hen lay an egg on a 2" X 2' roosting board, four foot off the ground. It was perfectly balanced on the 2 x 2. I could not beleive it and should have taken a picture of it but did not. Don't how she did it.

I found one on top of a 4X4 post ( not as talented as balancing it on a 2X2), one on a pile of rocks, but to worst was square in the middle of one of my lab's land mines...

Duck egg inside on my dogs bed. She finds them and bings them inside, unharmed, but licked clean

I have pullets that will be ready to lay in a couple of weeks--as for now I have only HennyPenny and I thought she hadn't been laying due to the heat---but, my husband went to put the tractor back in the barn today and saw her head peeking out of a 5 gallon bucket--he went and looked and there were 5 eggs in there---LOL he turned the bucket over and I am making them stay in their coop tommorrow till she goes back to the nests.......
